My father was a semi professional photographer, but he died before the advent of digital photography.  I just sold his old Nikon FG-20 because film cameras are soon also going to be dead.

We had a darkroom in our basement, and Dad taught me how to mix photographic chemicals: developer, shortstop and fixer. We would make Kodak D-72 out of various liquids and crystals, all cafefully measured at the correct temperature.

By the light of an amber safelight, I learned how to use the enlarger, shoot test strips and control exposure with dodging and vignetting, functions that I now do with PhotoShop.
