This is a very solid and easy to use digital camera with a resolution of up to 7 megapixels. The lens is an Olympus 6.3 to 63 mm f2.8 to 3.7, which is the equivalent of 38mm to 380 mm on a 35mm camera.
The monitor is a 2.5-inch TFT color LCD display with 115,000 pixels.
You can shoot in RAW or JPG, as well as QuickTime movies.
The camera uses four AA batteries, which makes it much more convenient than special battery packs that are very expensive.
Shutter speed range is 15 to 1/1000 second. During bulb: maximum 8 minutes. Aperture range is F2.8 to F8.0.
There is a scene menu with a good variety of modes: portrait, landscape, portrait+landscape, sport, night scene, night+portrait, indoor, candle, self portrait, available light, sunset, fireworks, museum, cuisine, behind glass, documents, auction, shoot & select 1, shoot & select 2, beach and snow. We have used the cuisine mode quite a bit, and it does make food pictures look great.
The Olympus Sp-510UZ digital camera is fairly inexpensive and easy to use, right out of the box with pretty much minimal reading of the instruction manual. The controls are quite intuitive.
We really like the ability to switch between a small viewfinder and the LCD display, especially when the sun is right at your back, the LCD can sometimes be very hard to see.
Rating: 4 stars.
